Aetna names chief medical officer

aetna_200x200Hartford health insurer Aetna said it has hired Dr. Harold L. Paz as executive vice president and chief medical officer.

Paz, who will join Aetna from his position as CEO of Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Health System, will be in charge of clinical strategy and policy at Aetna.

Aetna CEO Mark T. Bertolini said in a statement that Paz has “a clear vision for establishing growth platforms based on integrated care delivery, clinical evidence, training and outcomes-based goals.”

Paz previously was senior vice president for health affairs at Penn State University, dean of its medical school and a professor of medicine and public health sciences. He was also once dean of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and chief executive officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group.

He will start work at Aetna this month.
