Coventry Health Care Expands Partnership with UnityPoint Health

Coventry Health Care and UnityPoint Health today announced the expansion of their partnership providing high-performance network plans in the state of Iowa.

Coventry’s “Carelink” high-performance network plans will now give more Iowans affordable access to care through the clinics, hospitals and home care services of UnityPoint Health – the nation’s fourth largest nondenominational health system.

Coventry’s high-performance network featuring UnityPoint Health has been available to Des Moines residents for over two years. Under the expanded agreement, the network grows to cover the Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Quad Cities/Muscatine areas. Key UnityPoint Health hospitals in the network include Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Blank Children’s Hospital, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, John Stoddard Cancer Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, Allen Hospital and Trinity – Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island and Muscatine. In addition, the network is supported by UnityPoint Clinic and aligned physicians and providers.

“With a growing number of Iowa residents set to enter the health insurance marketplace in 2014, Coventry focused on creating affordable options that ensure more Iowans have access to quality care from the doctors and hospitals they trust,” said Dale Mackel, Local Market President of Coventry Health Care in Iowa. “Together with UnityPoint Health, we’ve delivered in the Des Moines area. Now, through our expanded partnership, Iowans in the Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities areas will have new, more affordable coverage options from an established carrier.”

Bill Leaver, President and CEO of UnityPoint Health, said “At UnityPoint Health, we coordinate care between the doctor, the hospital and care at home – making sure our patients receive the most focused and effective care possible. Coventry’s high-performance network model complements our approach to patient care well. Our collaboration helps bring both quality care and lower premiums across a larger part of Iowa.”

Carelink plans have been submitted to the Iowa Department of Insurance for approval and are planned to be available to individuals, families and employers this fall for January 1, 2014 effective dates.
